What urethral infections does the STI bundle 1 test for?

The STI bundle 1 tests for urethral chlamydia and urethral gonorrhoea. The test is just like the test that you could have in a clinic, apart from the fact that you collect your own urine sample and send it direct to the laboratory for testing.

How long should I wait before taking the test?

This test is unlikely to pick up signs of urethral gonorrhoea infection if the possible gonorrhoea infection occurred within the last week. The test is unlikely to pick up signs of urethral chlamydia infection if the infection occured within the last two weeks.

Will this test detect infections in the rectum or throat?

No.This test will not pick up signs of rectal or throat infections. You can use this test to screen for urethral infections but if you have unprotected anal or oral sex you must go to a clinic to test for rectal and throat infections.

How does this test work?

First of all you have to register online. As part of registering, you need to tell us where you want us to send your pack. You'll then be able to make a secure payment using a debit or credit card. We'll send a discreet pack to the shipping address you gave us. By following the simple instructions inside the pack, you'll be able to collect a urine sample. You need to put your urine sample into the pre-paid and pre-addressed packaging that we provide, and send it direct to our laboratory.

How do I get my test results?

Chlamydia and gonorrhoea test results are normally ready within two working days of your sample arriving at the laboratory. When your results are ready, we'll send you a SMS (text message) or email to say that your result is ready and that you need to check your online patient record.

What if I need treatment?

If the test shows that you do have chlamydia and/or gonorrhoea, we'll ask you to fill out a short online questionnaire that will help our doctors decide whether it's safe to send you treatment by post. Because of known resistance to gonorrhoea treatment in the UK, it is essential that anyone taking gonorrhoea treatment has a follow-up test to ensure that the treatment was effective.

When will you send out my test pack?

If you place an order before 5:00pm on a weekday, we'll send your pack out in that day's post.

Would someone looking at the pack know what is inside?

No. Our packs don't say anything about what's inside or who sent them.
