Gonorrhoea treatment by post - 1 dose - £69.50

This postal treatment service is only for people who already know that they need treatment for gonorrhoea. The service provides a convenient way to get the gonorrhoea treatment you need.

How long does it take for the gonorrhoea treatment to arrive?
If it's safe to do so, our doctors will generally prescribe gonorrhoea treatment for you the next working day and dispatch it to you as first class recorded delivery. You'll need to sign for the gonorrhoea treatment upon delivery.
Will I receive one or two antibiotics?
You'll receive two types of antibiotics because it's clinical best practice in the UK to treat a patient for a possible chlamydia infection at the same time as treating the gonorrhoea.
Is this gonorrhoea treatment effective?
Treating gonorrhoea is not always straightforward as some variants of gonorrhoea can be resistant to the standard cefixime treatment. This is particularly the case if, in addition to your genital gonorrhoea infection, you also have gonorrhoea in your throat. If you could have acquired gonorrhoea in your throat by giving oral sex to the person from whom you contracted your genital gonorrhoea infection, you may need an antibiotic injection rather than oral medicines. In case you do have gonorrhoea in your throat, you should pay particular attention to any lingering sore throat that you might have. If in doubt, you should visit your local NHS sexual health clinic.
After taking the treatment, should I have a test of cure?
Because of the risk of drug resistance, it is essential that six weeks after you've taken the gonorrhoea treatment you take a test to see if you still have gonorrhoea. Testing before six weeks may produce a false positive result.
What other gonorrhoea treatment options are there?
Gonorrhoea won't go away unless you treat it, even if you have no gonorrhoea symptoms. When our doctors prescribe treatment for gonorrhoea, we'll also send you treatment for chlamydia that can be taken as a single dose. Instead of taking your chlamydia treatment as a single one-off dose, you could take a different chlamydia treatment over seven days. Both chlamydia treatment options are as effective as each other .
What are the potential side effects of this gonorrhoea treatment?
So that you can make an informed decision to request this service, you need to know that about the possible side effects. Like any medication, the antibiotics used to treat gonorrhoea and chlamydia can cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea or an allergic rash. In addition this treatment can (but rarely) cause liver damage or blood clotting disorders. For a full list of some of the rarer side effects please consult the leaflet accompanying the medication.
Who should not take this gonorrhoea treatment?
You should not take this treatment if you know you are allergic to cefixime or azithromycin. This treatment should also not be taken by pregnant or breast-feeding women, or those with liver or kidney disease.
Sex after treatment
You must refrain from having unprotected (no condom) sex for at least six weeks after you have completed this course of gonorrhoea treatment.
