Emergency contraception in advance

This service provides an easy way for you to get the emergency pill before you need it.  Unfortunately it can be difficult for women to get the emergency pill in advance of need from family planning clinics, GPs and pharamcies.

The service is not for women who already know they need the emergency pill.

What is emergency contraception?

Emergency contraception is contraception that you take if you've already had unprotected sex or you're worried that despite using contraception, it may have failed.

The most common type of emergency contraception is the emergency pill.  The emergency pill is also called the 'morning-after pill'.  The name's a little confusing because you can take the emergency pill up to 72 hours after sex.  The sooner you take it, the more effective it is.

Why would I keep the emergency pill at home?

Some women find that when they want the emergency pill, they can't get it.  They like to plan ahead by keeping the emergency pill at home, ready for when it's needed.

This service is ideal for any woman who generally relies on condoms or hormonal contraception, but wants to plan ahead.  The service is also ideal for a woman who's travelling abroad to a country where it may not by easy to get the emergency pill when it's needed.
